Psychological Support For Every Stage Of Healing
Charis Psychological Services has registered psychologists in Johannesburg. We support people dealing with injury, illness, loss, and stress, offering individual, couples, and group therapy, plus psychological assessments. Whether you are adjusting to a new diagnosis or reclaiming your footing, our team is here to assist.
Therapy That Understands Medical and Emotional Realities
Charis Psychological Services grew out of one psychologist's own experience of adjusting to a spinal cord injury, and that starting point still shapes how the practice works today. Illness and injury rarely stay in their own lane. They affect relationships, identity, mood and the ability to keep functioning day to day, and our team is trained to work with all of that alongside the more familiar territory of anxiety, depression, grief and stress.
Sessions are practical rather than abstract. We help you understand what you are experiencing, build ways of coping that fit your actual circumstances, and work through the emotional layers that come with a medical diagnosis, an injury, or a life that has simply become too heavy to carry alone.
Learn More About Individual TherapyHow We Work
We do not work from a single fixed model. Depending on what suits your circumstances, your psychologist may draw on cognitive behavioural therapy, an interactional or relational approach, or other evidence-based methods, always explaining the reasoning so the process stays transparent. What matters most is that the approach fits your situation, rather than the other way around.
Meet The Team
Charis Psychological Services is led by Dr Danie Breedt, a registered psychologist with a background in medical and rehabilitation settings, supported by a wider team across our Sandton, Auckland Park and Alberton practices.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do You Need A Referral To See A Psychologist?
A referral is not required for most of our services. Some medical aid schemes do request a referral letter for reimbursement purposes, so it is worth checking your specific plan before your first appointment.
Can You Choose Which Psychologist You See?
Where possible, we take your preferences and practical needs, such as location and availability, into account when matching you with a psychologist. If a particular practitioner is not the right fit, you are welcome to discuss this with us, and we will suggest an alternative within the practice.
